New Stove

Well we got a new stove.  A Force 10 3 Burner model.    The old one was really getting pretty rough.  It hadn't had an oven for over 8 years and the top burners were less safe than recommended.

It was nice to finally let her go and move into the new millennium.  :-)

Aft cockpit project 03

More painting from Laura Blaquiere.

Aft cockpit project 02

Still on the aft cockpit project. Worked with Bob Bacon to weld a patch over the hole in the floor and to build a frame to allow us to have a large cushioned area above and to have a lockable storage area below.

Aft cockpit project - Apl 2015

Next project that week was converting the old aft steering station. We removed the steering linkage last year but still needed to remove the post and patch the hole it would leave in the cockpit floor.

Main Winch Project 05

Laura did some more painting.

Main Winch Project 04

Got the supports for the main winch back on.

Main Winch Project 03

Bad steel cut out. Plate tacked and then welded into place. The actual support for the winch will have to wait till next month....

Main Winch Project 02

Next part of the project get some 1/4 inch plate. Draw out the new winch base. Use the plasma cutter to cut the rough version and punch the initial holes for the bolts. Next I clamp the winch base to the rough version and drill out the holes to the right size and at the right location. Later I'll use the bench grinder to clean up all the edges.

Main Winch Project 01

April 2015 - Main winches have hidden a problem area on the decks since we bought the boat. It's finally time to deal with it. First step removal.

New Stack Pack

May 11 2015 - Laura has been doing some sewing and made a "stack pack" to store the main sail when it's down. That dark blue canvas thing is 18ft long and almost 3ft high by the mast. Doesn't look it. Thanks for the help Sherice and Toan!  Thanks to Sailrite for the kit!!!

SVLiquid Found in 1979 North American Yacht Register

Been trying to get some info on the history of our 1960's steel, ketch for ages.
The best we had was some pages of an old yacht log with the name "Bozo" and a small plaque with the builder L. Moerman from Brielle, Holland. Well I finally found her in the 1979 North American Yacht Register page 65 three lines up from the bottom.
Now I don't suppose anyone knows a Henry O. Kay who lived in Tyler, Texas in 1979? I've got some more recent pictures of his old boat.  smile emoticon

Engine room bulkhead paint...

Final coat of white paint makes a good spot to put the project on pause. The big hole rectangular and small circular holes that are left will have a bolt on covers that will allow access to the other side. We will pick it up again next month.  smile emoticon

The Deep Bilge

The deep bilge is the lowest part of the boat. It collects any water that ends up inside so it can be pumped out. Normally it's extremely difficult to access to clean or paint but this project removed the bulkhead that is normally in the way. We emptied, scooped, hammer drilled and needle gunned to remove 50 years of neglect. We also added fresh concrete the to the bottom, two coats of primer and a final top coat.
